ALL BECAUSE A BALL HIT HIS NOSE!

This is Brayden just before his nose surgery. I am so proud of how he has handled all of this.

Aren't his jammies cute?

(Brayden waiting for doctors to take him back for surgery) I was able to be with Brayden at this point. I talked to him about what they were going to do. I told him he would drift off to sleep and when he woke up it would be all over with. I told him his Dad and I would be right there when he woke up.

Bob and I waited in the waiting room for about 45 min. The Dr. came out and told us that the procedure was more difficult than he thought. Brayden's nose was broke in a couple of places. He then proceeded to tell us that someone would come and get us in about 5 mins. 5 mins. turned into 45 mins. Bob went and asked when we could see him. The Anesthesiologist came in and told us that Brayden had a really rough time waking up. He was thrashing around, coughing and yelling. They had to put him back to sleep and have him wake up again. We waited 20 more mins. We then were allowed to go back and see him. Oh my GOSH! I was not prepared for what I saw. He looked horrible. He took one look at us and tears came streaming down his face. He was having a breathing treatment and was in so much pain. He just kept whispering to us that he was in so much pain. I had to sit down while Bob reassured him we were there and that everything would be okay. My heart felt sick to see him like this. I prayed that I might be strong for him, but I litteraly had to walk out and take a deep breath. I couldnt take it!

When I was able to come back in, Brayden was still in so much pain. He was not breathing well and his oxygen level was really low. He began to cough and just let out this horrible scream. "My chest hurts, my chest hurts!", he would say. The nurse came up to Brayden and said, "No Brayden, its not your chest that hurts it is your nose. Your just fine." She then proceeded to tell us he was disoriented and confused and that sometimes kids complain because they have had a tube down their throat.

Brayden continued to cough and this time he coughed up so much blood and continued to do so. Again the nurse reassured us that this was normal. Brayden kept complaining about his chest. The nurse told him to stop crying and take some deep breathes. He looks at me so helplessly. He couldn't!!!!!!! Something was not right and Bob and I both knew it. The nurse called the anethesiologist and he thought that Brayden may have pulled a mucsle in his chest. He told them to just give him some tylenol. They gave him tylenol and asked us if we felt comfortable taking him home. I told them no and that I was very concerned about his chest pain. Once again they told us not to worry, and that eveything would be fine. His oxygen levels were still not were they should be and they started to take out Braydens IV and prepared him to leave. Bob and I were very uneasy, but trusted the nurses and took Brayden home.

Does he look well? Not at all! Poor Champ! (Ashy was excited to get her brother home so she could take care of him.)

Brayden slept and slept when we got him home. He woke up in so much pain. I gave him his pain meds. and off to sleep he went. I slept on the couch next to him that night because I was so worried about him. (This was Brayd the next morn. Still not looking well.)He continued to scream out in pain that morning. The Dr. called in the afternoon to check and B and we told him what was going on. He told us to get him the the ER. Quickly! Bob took him up there while I found someone for the kids and I met them up there. They had to give B Morphine he was in so much pain. (He was out of it.) They took x-rays of his chest and within minutes we knew what was going on. He Has Pneumonia!!!!!! He had inhaled so much blood into his lungs it created pneumonia. They admitted him. Bob and I were upset to say the least. Our boy suffered when he came out of surgery. Come to find out when he was waking up, poor little guy was just struggling to breathe because so much blood was going down his throat and out his nose. He inhaled a lot of it and was in instant pain. With severe chest pain and low oxygen levels, the nurses never should have let him go home that night.

This was B after staying the night in the hospital. He looked so good when I saw him that morning.

This was how I found Bob that same morning. He stayed the night with Brayden. What and awesome DAD!

Needless to say his care in his hospital stay was great! He was well taken care of and we were comfortable taking him home when we got his pediatrician's okay.

Brayden is doing much better we are so grateful he is okay. Thank you to those of you who's thoughts and prayers were with Brayden. B is definitely being watched over. Where to go from here, I am not quite sure. The Surgery Center keeps calling, checking up on B and trying to cover their tracks. Although frustrated, I just dont want this to happen to anyone else. It is heartbreaking to see your child in pain. And to think all of this because a ball hit B's nose!

Oh, that whole experience makes my heart ache for you guys! That is so hard to see your child in pain and to have that gut feeling that something is wrong and be denied!

Brayden, I hope you get better quickly! Let me know if you need anything!

Seriously agree with Jeff!! It amazes me how Dr's always push their way around parents who do KNOW better! We are the ones who know what our kids are like and not the Dr's. You tried and they didn't listen! grrr
I am so glad he is feeling better though!!

Oh my gosh, Brayden and I could be twins! Only I don't play baseball and I didn't get pneumonia, and all those other details that didn't happen to me either. But we both looked like crap in the hospital, were sent home, and then had to go back. I LOVE that smiling picture of him at the bottom! What a relief to see that back on his handsome face! I had no idea that any of this was even going on! I'm so glad that he's getting better and that he has such great parents!

I admire how your handled it and can only imagine how frustrated you guys were. Glad B's better and we can't wait to hang out again. Liam keeps asking to look at the pics of Zach that Todd took. Think he liked hanging out!
